Love this post. Pippen started showing this ability late last year. Huff is revelation this year. But that last-minute dig at LaRavia surprised me. Check out his line tonight. He deserves any minutes he's getting and more.
Thanks! And I'm pleased that since I wrote this, they've both continued to play well and hold down big roles.
I just don't think LaRavia is very good, although he's been a little bit better since I wrote this piece two weeks ago. He's getting big minutes, so he will compile some numbers just by sheer opportunity. I still think it's telling the team declined their team option on him, even if it was more due to cap shenanigans than a lack of belief in him. At full strength, I don't think LaRavia gets many minutes, so maybe he's just overtaxed from being in too big of a role. Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see.
More coaches going deep into their rotations! Memphis and Golden State playing 10 to 12 players for whatever reason is fine by me. With injuries and the second apron teams maybe teams will start to develop and play 10-11-12th me regularly. Starters don't want to give up minutes but deeper rotations could be a path for hitting the 65 game limit to qualify for the goodies. As far as the 'I need my reps' mentality: you're pros! Be more efficient. That period before games, that's rep time!
As a writer, I appreciate more guys playing so I have more people to write about!
But on a serious note, I do think minutes management will become more common than guys "load managing" games, and I think that's a better way to do it. Grizz and Warriors are extreme example to start the year, but that should become more common.
Denver could have used those Jay Huff triples when he was on their bench last year. Lol
No kidding!
