If the Celtics need to tweak the roster, when will they do it? At Christmas? Trade deadline? Whenever the win/loss record is unsatisfactory? Will they add anyone before trading camp? How about Javonte Green as a switchable wing? If a major deal needs to be done for a floor leader do they package players outside the top 7, Malcolm Brogdon or either Rob or Al?

Perhaps the best way to look at Porzingas vs Smart is Porzingas instead of Gobert, Vucevic or KAT.

Thanks for reading! A lot to unpack here.

They might make minor moves before the season opens, but my sense (just a guess) is that they want to give this roster time to gel and see what holes can be papered over vs. which ones need to be addressed.

Green's a decent fit on paper, but he's seemingly never healthy. If I were Boston, I'd be looking for someone a bit bigger, too. But they could do a lot worse.

I don't believe the Celtics would have ever seriously considered Gobert or Vucevic (at the salary he commanded, anyway). Minnesota wouldn't have sold on Gobert this quickly, regardless. Boston seemed dead set on adding length without sacrificing shooting. KAT would have been veeeerrrryyy interesting, although there's no way Boston would be the team to give Minnesota the best offer. Everything I've heard suggests that nobody wants KAT for the price Minnesota would need.

I do think that nobody on the team is untouchable outside of the Jays, so if Stevens can make a big swing that he thinks will help the team, anybody else could be up for grabs.
