Mikal Bridges is in the honorable mentions, and he made my teams last year. I think it is unlikely he is a top-5 in the actual DPOY this year based on everything I've seen from people with a vote, but we'll find out soon enough.
In my opinion, his defense has taken a very slight step back this year as he's shouldered more offensive responsibility. He's still elite! But I think a few people have been better. As I say in the introduction, there's a lot of wiggle room, and if you think he belongs, that's a defensible opinion.
Dort's highs are as high as anyone, but in my opinion he's slightly more mistake-prone than the guys ahead of him. For every "put Kawhi in a lockbox", there's a "getting burned by Cory Joseph for a would-be gamewinner" (which happened after I wrote this, fwiw).
That said, grading defense is almost impossible. I think Dort is great. The only guards that I 100% believe are better than Dort are Holiday, Caruso, and Anunoby. From Delon Wright on down I think there are a lot of people who could reasonably switch spots, but tough calls had to be made!
