Right player in the right situation. In Chicago DJ was matched up against bulky post players or even as a small ball center, so he was constantly beat up. Surprised that Grant William's defense has poor analytics. Maybe being on the Celtics hid some of his weaknesses?

I’ve always thought Williams was a bit overrated defensively, but he is reasonably versatile. DJJ is far better at the point of attack, and although Williams is probably a bit better against bruising bigs, Lively’s surprising competence has rendered Williams’ services a little redundant right now.

He’ll still play a big role, though, and gives Dallas flexibility in the playoffs. We’ll see if he can snap out of this shooting slump that seems to be affecting him mentally on both ends.
