Last night, the Clippers lost to a Nuggets team missing its three best players playing on a road back-to-back, and it reinforced what I’ve been thinking all season: Paul George is the Clippers’ best player, and if that remains true, the Clippers are screwed.
Shearer, with the iPod! Really enjoyed this piece. As a Pacer fan, I don’t have much love for PG anymore, but there’s a lot he does well. Would be fun to see this Clips team capitalize on the promise of him and Kawhi together at some point.
Glad you liked it, especially given your experience!
Love to see the Clippers give it a go at full strength, even if I’m not super optimistic. But the parity in the league is top-notch right now, so who knows what could happen?
Out of curiosity, how did you find me here? LinkedIn, the Athletic, Reddit?
I’ve seen your posts on LinkedIn in the past but this time I came via the link in Tuesday’s (?) edition of The Bounce newsletter. Got excited when I saw your name. Hope all is well my friend.
Ha, that’s awesome! Definitely lends me an air of unearned legitimacy.
Doing great man, hope the same for you! If you ever swing by North Carolina, let me know. I’d love to grab a drink and pick that beautiful basketball brain of yours.
The Clippers real weakness is their proximity to the Lakers, who are actually the less talented team overall. If the Clips and Nets switched arenas the Knicks would be an afterthought. Move the Clips to Seattle and they become the Beyonce of the West Coast.
Paul George would be an awesome Number One in the East, on any team except Philly or Milwaukee. Notice how the Clippers aren't panicking? No trade rumors, no regrets over Harden, and Coach Lue is making adjustments on the fly.
Man, I'd LOVE clippers in Seattle. I'm fervently anti-expansion, but Clippers becoming Sonics 2.0 would be great (although that fancy new arena the Clippers have will be printing money, so not much incentive for Ballmer, sadly). No shade to local Clippers fans, of course, but it is tough to be the non-Lakers team.
The Clippers have never been prone to panic, and honestly, what's the point? The hand is dealt, they just have to play the cards. This is the roster, give or take a seventh-man type move; they need to mazimize it to the best of their abilities.

Jack! What’s up, man? Great to hear from you.

Nothing unearned about it boss. Sounds like a plan! Same for you if you’re up in the NYC area
“Paul George isn’t even Paul George’s ideal alpha dog.” 😂🍿🍿🍿 Nice one!
